June 1, 2020

Following consultation with league officials and referees, and in consideration of the current health directives from the province, SNS has issued an announcement regarding league and competitive soccer activities for summer 2020. (LINK HERE).

While Nova Scotia has given the green light to our Provincial Sport Organization (Soccer Nova Scotia) to resume soccer programming, this return to play will come with new and necessary COVID-19 compliant guidelines. We are all disappointed, and I know our players are saddened by this necessary announcement, but HCU and all clubs in the region remain committed to delivering soccer programming to our members.  It is our intent to keep our players active and in the game in a safe manner aligning with Public Health and SNS guidelines for the summer of 2020.

While we hesitate to provide exact dates, return to play is not expected to happen before July 3, 2020. We are awaiting further guidance from both Soccer Nova Scotia and the Halifax Regional Municipality. SNS has a Return to Play plan and a Risk Assessment Tool for each club that will provide the direction for building programming and the protocols for implementation. HRM is working to determine which fields each club will have access to, and will re-assign our field allocations for use based on the programming that we are able to provide. We are working diligently with SNS, HRM and in collaboration with our fellow clubs to determine what programming will look like.  We ask for your patience as we navigate this incredibly complicated endeavour.

Our registration platform is temporarily suspended while we prepare to implement the forthcoming changes. Registration will resume once our new program details, fees and dates are set.  If you have chosen not to register as of yet, do not worry.  All HCU Members will have the ability to register for programs when we are able to determine all of the details and communicate a complete picture to our membership.

If you are currently registered for summer soccer, please wait for the new program details to be released before contacting our registrar. As previously stated, any money already received will be applied to the new program, any over-payment will be refunded, and anyone wishing to NOT participate in the new program can get a full 100% refund. Details on the Refund Request Process will be included with upcoming communication.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Soccer Nova Scotia for the on-going open and honest communication, and for supporting our sport and the clubs to the best of their ability during this challenging time. We are all navigating uncharted waters and need to have as much information as possible prior to communicating our intentions to our membership. I also want to thank our HCU members, and acknowledge my appreciation for all your patience and understanding as we do our best to bring you a quality product with all of the necessary precautions to keep our staff, coaches, players and families as safe as possible.  Rest assured we are doing our very best and will continue to update any pertinent information on a regular and timely basis.

May 29, 2020

The province made an exciting announcement.  On May 29th, the Nova Scotia government has given the green light to resume soccer programming.  This return to play will come with new COVID-19 compliant guidelines and new programming.

Return to play will not happen until we hear from both Soccer Nova Scotia and the Halifax Regional Municipality.  SNS will determine the new guidelines for our programs, the protocols for implementing, and the date we can resume play on the fields. HRM will re-assign field allocations for summer use. As soon as we have all that information, we will post an update on our website and communicate all details to our members.

Our registration platform is now temporarily suspended while we prepare to implement the forthcoming changes. Registration will resume once our new program details, fees and dates are set.

If you are currently registered for summer soccer, please wait for the next detailed communication before sending an inquiry email. As previously stated, any money paid will be applied to the new program, any over-payment will be refunded, and anyone wishing to NOT participate in the new program can get a full 100% refund. Details on the Refund Request Process will be included with upcoming comunications.

April 17, 2020

Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping all of us safe and healthy through these unusual times we find ourselves living in.

Soccer Nova Scotia continues to make difficult decisions regarding soccer in our province and HCU fully supports them in these decisions which are aligned with Canada Soccer and government public health officials.  As of April 16, Soccer Nova Scotia has canceled or postponed all sanctioned in-person soccer activities for the month of May.  Soccer Nova Scotia is also postponing its Annual General Meeting, originally scheduled for June 13.

Registration is Open and Ongoing

HCU registration is open and we encourage all members to continue to register at http://hcusoccer.ca/registration/summer-registration.  Registration will allow HCU Staff to get our season up and running as efficiently as possible should we be given green light directive by Canada Soccer, Soccer Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia public health officials.

Programming

While we cannot fully predict what the impact of COVID-19 will be on our programs at HCU we are committed to delivering soccer programs to our community as soon as permitted.  With the situation and timelines of COVID-19 impacts evolving day by day, the staff and Board continue to explore and adjust potential programming so we can hit the field running.  To bridge the gap between on-field soccer and at-home soccer, our staff is creating online programming, fitness and technical, for our members. A calendar of daily soccer-related activities is available at www.hcusoccer.ca.  Dwight is also working with HCU coaches to engage with players they have coached in previous seasons as teams have not been formed at this point.

Please continue to follow the advice of Public Health to keep your family safe and healthy.  We hope to see everyone on the field very soon!

Take care, be safe and be kind!

April 2, 2020

First, the HCU Board and Staff would like to extend our thanks to all of those within the Club and our communities who are on the front lines of this pandemic working very hard to keep us safe and healthy through this difficult time.  We encourage all of our members to also support the requests of Nova Scotia and Canadian public health officials by continuing to do the hard work of physical distancing while maintaining social connection to family, friends, teammates, and coaches.  You are all doing a great job! Thank you!

COVID-19 remains an evolving situation.  As of today, the suspension of all Canada Soccer, and subsequently Soccer Nova Scotia, sanctioned activities remains in effect through the month of April in compliance with the state of emergency in the Province.  (SNS Memo April 2). Soccer Nova Scotia continues to proactively plan and advocate on behalf of all clubs and leagues to provide support and guidance for the resumption of soccer activities.  Our board and staff are working through the effects of this suspension on our Club with adjusted planning being developed for all programs.  As always, the health and safety of our members is our number one priority.

Communications Commitment

The Board and staff are in constant communication as we adjust plans and programming in response to unknowns on when and if our Summer soccer will begin.  Your patience is appreciated as contingencies with different options are worked out.  All information will be communicated to our members on a timely basis when the go ahead is given by Canada Soccer, Soccer Nova Scotia, and Nova Scotia public health officials.

Programming/Fees Adjustments To Be Determined

Programming at our Club is being impacted by COVID-19.  However, this is a dynamic situation and at this point we cannot predict what the full impact on programming will be.  We are exploring various scenarios, reshaping programs where appropriate, and will be adjusting fees as needed for condensed programs.  Changes to programming will be communicated to members.

Currently, the April programming affected is our Spring Mini Soccer Program which has been canceled, the Performance stream pre-season, and NSSL game schedule.  Our Club, along with Soccer Nova Scotia and other Clubs involved in the Performance program are evaluating options.

In closing, we ask that you follow the advice of Public Health to keep your family safe and healthy.  As a Club, let’s stick together and support one another through social connection.  Take this opportunity to put social media to positive use and share fun soccer ideas with those in our HCU community to help keep everyone engaged and in this together.  If there are families in our community that need extra support, we also ask that you let us know and we will do what we can…even if it is simply to get a soccer ball to a player so they can get outside and have some fun!

March 18, 2020

COVID-19 is an evolving situation affecting all aspects of life.  As you know, on March 13, 2020, Soccer Nova Scotia suspended all sanctioned activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic and HCU fully supports this necessary decision.  The HCU Board and staff are working through the impacts of this suspension on our Club and programs with the health and safety of our members as the number one priority.

Communications Commitment

HCU’s Board and staff are holding regular communications calls to address critical decisions and ongoing adjustments to our planned programming.  Our members can expect regular communications with relevant information and decisions as we receive further guidance from Soccer Nova Scotia, Canada Soccer, and Canadian and Nova Scotia public health officials.

Registration is Open and Ongoing

March is the busiest time of year for HCU as registration opens, program planning is full speed ahead, and other resources are engaged for the upcoming season.  We want to ensure you that all these critical activities continue, and we encourage all members to proceed with the registration process at  http://hcusoccer.ca/registration/summer-registration.  Our members can be assured that full refunds will be available should programs that you register for do not proceed due to the impacts of the COVID-19 situation.

Programming/Fees Adjustments To Be Determined

Programming across our Club may be affected to varying degrees by COVID-19.  However, this is a dynamic situation and at this point we cannot predict what the impact on programming will be.  We are committed to exploring every possible scenario, reshaping programs where appropriate, and adjusting and/or refunding fees as needed for condensed programs.  Each program will be evaluated for adjustments and this will be communicated to members as the full scope of information becomes available and the Board and staff make the necessary determinations.

Currently, our Performance stream players’ pre-season and upcoming NSSL game schedules are affected.  Our Club, along with Soccer Nova Scotia and other Clubs involved in the Performance program are evaluating options.

The Mini Community Spring Soccer 2020 program scheduled for April and May will be evaluated closer to the start date and in accordance with directives from Soccer Nova Scotia.

Other programming changes will be evaluated and communicated to members on a timely basis as necessary.

HCU Office Staffing

Our staff is following recommendations from public health for social distancing and as such the HCU Office is closed until further notice.  We are available by telephone or email to answer your questions and assist with registration.

March 13th, 2020

Soccer Nova Scotia has suspended all soccer in Nova Scotia effective today as outlined in the memo linked below.

Halifax County United recognizes the need to support the current health situation associated with COVID-19 and will not be running any trainiing, practices, games or coaches meetings until the suspension is lifted.

Currently, this only impacts our Performance AAA programs who are currently in a pre-season phase of their program. Our registration for spring and summer soccer will remain open as we plan to get the programs under way as planned. We will keep you notified of any further developments.
